THE MINUTES: News From the Future with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, and Cillian Murphy

Working with FOX and New Regency, I directed a fictional documentary set in the world of Andrew Niccol’s science fiction feature IN TIME about a world where time has become the currency in a population of the ageless. Posing as a kind of Michael Moore like character from the future, I set about making a socio-political investigative piece of agit prop spinning around the proposition “For a few to be immortal, many must die.” The piece takes place before the start of the feature, and catches most of the main characters in fast, intrusive-styled interviews. Justin Timberlake, as Will, barely has time to stop running while we talk. Cillian Murphy, as a cop, treats me as though he’d rather see me shot than ask any more questions. “Jerkin” is a hip-hop subculture that originated in Los Angeles and spread throughout the world.  It had encompassed fashion, music, dance, and a DIY ethic that has motivated thousands of teenagers to produce tracks, shoot videos, and invent moves straight out of their backyards.  I directed and co-produced a 15 part series called JERK ALL-STARS, sponsored by Sprite and distributed by Mysapce.  The show was one part documentary and one part street-level dance competition, and it brought me full force into a subculture that was exploding in the streets of Watts, Long Beach, and Hollywood. Award winning comic book writer and psychedelic baddass Grant Morrison is giving me a script for what might be one of the most insane American movies in a decade.  SINATORO is a psychedelic science fiction revenge thriller set in a landscape made of American pop culture nightmares.  Grant and I have been looking for years to do a project together. My video for the No-Neck Blues Band is being screened as part of the art show FULL OF LIGHT which is billed as a “gentle nod to Bruce Connor / Enfolding Angel”. I’m psyched to be a part of it.
